Early Life and Education

Early childhood is an important period in a child’s brain development. They lay the foundations for social skills, self-worth, moral values and cognitive capabilities.

Experiences a child has from birth through age 8 can have profound, lifelong effects on their health, learning capacity and behavior. By understanding how these early life events impact these outcomes, parents, educators and policymakers can work toward creating an effective plan for ensuring children thrive into the future.

Many great minds have contributed to the field of early childhood education and created styles of teaching which still prevail today. Some notable theories include those of Friedrich Froebel, who is widely considered as having founded kindergarten, and Erikson who believed that parents and educators must support a child’s psychosocial growth at each stage.
